Marrow by Trisha Wolfe and Brynne Weaver

Marrow Synopsis

Two rival serial killers.
One common enemy.

Forensic anthropologist Dr. Jack Sorensen is the perfect serial killer. In the bright lights of his public persona he’s a respected scientist, a leader in the field of human decomposition. But in his shadowed secret life he’s a ruthless and elusive killer, unseen by the authorities who have failed to follow his faint trail of destruction. Beautifully cold, brilliant and cruel, Jack wants nothing more than to keep his life captured in his vise-like grip of control. And Jack Sorensen never makes mistakes…

…until he underestimates Dr. Kyrie Roth.

Wildlife biologist Kyrie is the enemy Jack never noticed, another murderer in his midst. A killer with equal cunning and stealth as the great Jack Sorensen, she knows all his darkest secrets, even the pieces of a past he might have forgotten. Kyrie has created the perfect habitat for her favorite research subject, but she’s finally had enough of being bitten by the beast that lives at Jack’s core. Pushed past her breaking point, Kyrie has decided to do whatever it takes to make Jack suffer. But when Kyrie’s traumatic past descends on her broken oasis, the only person who can help Kyrie banish her painful shadows might just be her greatest enemy.

History can’t always be left to decay in a cold grave. Time has a way of thawing secrets, leaving them to shine as bright as bleached bones in the sun. Can Jack and Kyrie set aside their battle and survive a world built to hunt them? Or will they kill each other first?

My Thoughts on Marrow by Trisha Wolfe and Brynne Weaver

I’ve seen Marrow floating around bookstagram for a few weeks now as it was just released at the end of March. I’ll be honest, it didn’t really catch my eye, but I didn’t know anything about it. I also haven’t read anything by Trisha Wolfe or Brynne Weaver before. Then I saw a post referencing serial killers and decided to see what it was all about. I love serial killers so here we are. I have read the synopsis and the mile-long trigger warning list. Skip on down to my Final Thoughts to avoid the possibility of spoilers.

  1. Well that’s an opening.
  2. So we are not a fan of one Mr. Jack Sorensen.
  3. Kyrie knows how to get what she wants. My kinda girl. Weird conversation to have during sex tho.
  4. Multi point of view. Let’s see what Jack is all about.
  5. Damn. Both Jack and Kyrie are delightful.
  6. Exactly Jack. Even if it’s dirty talk about corpses.
  7. That’s one way to spend the evening.
  8. Oh Jack, I have a feeling you are underestimating Kyrie.
  9. One dead grad student does not make a serial killer Jack.
  10. Not for the same reason, but microwaves are one of my mortal enemies as well.
  11. The game is afoot. Mason is officially MIA.
  12. He does Kyrie and he probably shouldn’t.
  13. I’ve been studying your species for a decade
  14. Ugh, Lynx are super cute and I’ve wanted one as a pet since I was a kid.
  15. Was the Silent Slayer caught? Or is it Jack?
  16. A tad bit childish there Kyrie. Not to mention gross.
  17. Get it together Jack. There is murder to be done and you can’t stop thinking about Kyrie.
  18. Ah so Jack is not the Silent Slayer but the slayer of said slayer.
  19. Who did this to you? Don’t worry Jack, you already killed him.
  20. So that’s the Hayes connection.
  21. Jesus Jack, six times.
  22. Dickmatize me into winning Thunderdome
  23. The humour right now.
  24. I could have done without the blood.
  25. What a way to spend date night.
  26. I forgot Kyrie still had Jack’s victim stashed away.
  27. Hayes is really starting to become a problem.
  28. We are the weapons
  29. Ugh would one of these two kill Hayes already.
  30. That ended way more happily ever after than I thought it would.

My Final Thoughts on Marrow

So first off, Marrow is not going to be a book for everyone. There are some specific kinks happening throughout the story and yes, there is a story, that many may not feel comfortable with. Consent is key, and consent there was. Well, between Jack and Kyrie anyway. None of the murder victims gave their consent to be murdered.

I enjoyed the story and the spice was well, spicy. Serial killers generally have some extreme kinks, so if you are looking for a vanilla love story, this is not going to be it. Kyrie has been obsessed with Jack from the moment, in her opinion, he saved her life. Unbeknownst to Jack, the night he killed the Silent Slayer his little reaper was born. Kyrie stalks Jack throughout his career, following in his footsteps to become the best serial killer she can be.

Spurred by years of Jack’s rejection, Kyrie confronts him in a way that only serial killers can. Leaving Jack with a puzzle to solve, and body parts to hide. Unfortunately for both of them, their shenanigans cause the FBI to start sniffing around their hunting grounds.

“And they claim romance is dead.” – Kyrie

For a story about two serial killers falling in love, Marrow is delightful.

Quotes from Marrow by Trisha Wolfe and Brynne Weaver

I am the sun whose light reflects on his cold, remote mask. And I am the celestial fire that will destroy him.

He doesn’t just walk, he stalks, like a panther hunting in long grass, his movement fluid but powerful, purposeful.

But he is a beast. He’s feral beneath this angelic facade.

Her polished bones would look good displayed on my trophy mantel.

If looks could flay, my skin would be a pile of ribbon around my feet.

The innocence of my expression lifts like a mask of fog, burning away to reveal the wicked creature lying beneath.

I looked into the captivating pale-blue of her eyes and I knew- in a fraction of a second- she would be my destruction.
